Player Profile - Owen Dive
Posted by Ian Carruthers on Monday, November 23, 2009 (06:53:21) (213 reads)
Name: OWEN DIVE
Nic Name: My 'internet name' is Captainowie (ask me about it if you want to know the origins of the name), and when I was at Uni that (or variations of that) is what people called me. I don't hear it very much nowadays, but it's the closest thing I have to a nickname.

TO THE BEAT OF HER DRUM
Posted by Ian Carruthers on Monday, November 23, 2009 (06:48:50) (175 reads)
A little pat on the back for Jess Hutchison who has recently been elected Drum Sargeant of the Band.
Jess not only spends many hours each week tutoring both the Band’s and the College’s up and coming snare drummers but is tireless in her efforts to develop her own considerable drumming talents.
The quality of Jess’ drumming has been recognised by Blacktown Pipe Band who invited her to play with their Grade 1 Band at Wollongong and Castle Hill as well as asking her to join them on their trip to New Zealand in December. Well done Jess!

Name: Jessie Hutchison
Nic Name: None really. Some people at Taupo band (NZ) started to call me the Duracell bunny, since I could keep on taptap-tapping for hours.

Player Profile - Alaine Cole
Posted by Ian Carruthers on Saturday, March 07, 2009 (09:41:10) (266 reads)
Name: ALAINE COLE
Nic Name: I haven't had a consistent nick name. 'Lainey' or 'Lainey chops' have been the most common. 'Wind-mill' by one of Dad's shearers when I was little, and of course I've had 'The Black Douglas' although that is perhaps a little irrelevant now.

Colin Marks
Posted by Ian Carruthers on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 (00:30:57) (411 reads)
Nic Name: I don’t have one – at least not one you can publish.
Been Piping: since I was eleven. I began in the Ballyboley Pipe Band Hall, Northern Ireland which was within walking distance of our house. It was a small stone building with gas lighting and an open fire – I feel quite spoiled at Taylor Primary School!!
Favourite Music: I like traditional pipe music more than contemporary stuff especially the compositions of Pipe Majors Donald MacLeod and GS McLennan and my old tutor Andrew Venters. Additionally, I like Van Morrison and the Police but listen to almost everything. My IPOD is a good friend.
Favourite Movies: Mainly action and adventure particularly ………..The Goodfellows, Rocky, anything with John J Rambo and Braveheart of course.
Things I like: Australia, going on holiday, beer and most recently Kettlebells.
Things I hate: Ireland losing at rugby and most recently second hand cars and associated mechanics.
Things for the future: To compete at Grade 2 level and ultimately early retirement from work.
